Mendenhall
Funeral Program - Ardie Lee Myers
Beginning...
Ardie Lee Grubbs Myers,
lovingly known as May Doll, was born on October 2, 1935, in
Simpson County, Mississippi. She was the third child born to Emmett, Sr. and Gertrude Durr
Grubbs.
Educational Years...
In the early 1940s and 50s, the early grades were housed in local churches. Ardie Lee was a part
of that era. Later, she continued her education at Magee Consolidated High School.
Spiritual and Loving Years...
Ardie Lee joined Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. Soon after finishing
school, Ardie met the love of her life, William Quitman Myers, whom she lovingly referred to as
"Bunny" and known to others as "Baby Ray." He passionately called her "May Doll" (derived for
My Doll). To this union, five children were born. Due to his army career, they lived in several
places before settling in Magee, Mississippi. Ardie Lee then joined Mary Grove Missionary
Baptist Church serving with the Mission and Pastor's Aid Ministries until health failed her. May
Doll and Baby Ray were married for 65 years, experiencing a lifetime of love, bliss, and all of
life's ups and downs—together. They remained deeply in love until his transition home on
November 1, 2019.
Working Years...
Ardie Lee Myers began her working career in the laundry at the Mississippi Tuberculosis
Sanatorium. After leaving there, she was employed at Jackson Package in Jackson, Mississippi,
for a number of years. She then dedicated 24 years of her life to the Universal Manufacturing
Plant (later known as Magnetek) in Mendenhall, Mississippi, where she eventually retired.
However, even after retirement, she remained devoted to her community, providing
transportation to those in need—whether it was to doctor appointments, grocery shopping, or
any other essential task. She was truly the epitome of 'I am my brother's keeper.'
Ardie was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett, Sr. and Gertrude Durr Grubbs; husband, William Q. "Baby Ray" Myers; three brothers, Emmett Grubbs, Jr., Robert Grubbs, and James Grubbs; and two sisters, Lois Thompson and Alice Marie Grubbs Etienne.
Ardie Lee leaves to cherish her loving memories: one son, James L. (Cootie Mae) Myers, Magee, Mississippi; four daughters, Ellen (Milton) Walker, Lawrence, Mississippi, Gail Myers, Mendenhall, Mississippi, Sylvia Myers, Austin, Texas, and Sidney (Byron Rettig) Ortiz; two sisters, Joyce Swan, Los Angeles, California and Norma (Claude) Vereen. She also leaves 12 grandchildren, 25 great grand children, five great great grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ardie Lee Grubbs Myers will be greatly missed.
