Funeral Program - Betty Jean Newsome

Mrs.  Betty Jean Walker Newsome, affectionately known as Bitty. Born on January 12, 1946, she departed this life on July 29, 2025.

Bitty was the third of fourteen children born to the late Joseph and Polly Lou Walker. She is preceded in death by her seven brothers: Troy, Joseph Jr., Milton, Freddie, James Earl, Melvin, and Eula C. Walker, as well as her four sisters: Lenoia Wallace, Dorothy Walker, Rosella Walker, and Gerlene Walker.

The Lord has called another one of His angels home to join His pain-free, worry-free union. Bitty joined the New Zion MB Church at an early age and was an active member of the usher board.

A resident of Pinola, MS, she was a devoted wife and mother. She worked in private homes and at the BC Roger Poultry Plant in Scott County until she was unable to continue. After that, she dedicated her life to being a loving housewife to her husband, Bobby Newsome. Bitty had a passion for cooking and cleaning, often sharing these joys with her grandchildren.

She leaves behind cherished memories with her devoted husband of 51 years, Bobby R. Newsome; one brother, Grady C. Walker (Indiana); one sister, Christine (Willie) Walker Williams (Pinola); three sons: James (Alice) Brown Jr. (Pinola), Curtis (Linda) Brown (Jackson, MS), and Johnny L. (Charity) Brown (Ridgeland, MS); one daughter, Cora J. Brown (Mendenhall, MS); one godson, Randy Williams (Prentiss, MS); ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

As we come together to celebrate her life, let us remember the love and warmth she brought to all of us. We will keep her spirit alive in our hearts and cherish the memories we shared.
