Betty Jean
Sandifer Gray
Sep 27, 1939 — Sep 15, 2023
Mendenhall
Betty Jean Sandifer Gray was born September 27, 1938, in Pinola, Mississippi, to the late Jessie Lee Sandifer and Cedonia Hollins Sandifer. She transitioned to her earthly home on September 15, 2023.
As a child, she joined New Hymn Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member throughout her entire life. Until her death, she always maintained a Godly love for her church family. As a member, she loved to sing God's praises, as a choir member and soloist at home and at various other churches.
As a young woman, she married the late John L. Gray and relocated to Mendenhall, Mississippi. She was a strong woman with a strong will. She had a genuine love for people and everyone loved "Ms. Betty!"
She began her employment at Simpson General Hospital performing environmental services. She later worked at Magnetek for nearly 30 years. Additionally, she served her community in other capacities. One capacity was as a great seamstress and she could make anything even without a pattern. Secondly, she's most remembered as a hairdresser back in the day. Finally, she loved to cook for her family and fellow man.
She was the fourth of five children of which her four siblings preceded her in death: Gussie Mae Camper, Robert Lee Sandifer, Otha Lee Sandifer, and Rosie Lee Newsome.
She leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter, Laster Ruth Norwood; son-in-law, Charlie Norwood, Jr.; nephew/son, Charles Edward (Leatrice) Tales; three children from her marriage; Larry (Margaret) Gray of Toledo, Ohio, James (Glenda) Gray and Anthony (Niecy) Walker, both of Mendenhall, Mississippi; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
As you can see, Betty lived a full life – living to see her fifth generation. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
