Mendenhall
Funeral Program - Bobby D. Burkett
Bobby Darvin Burkett was born on June 23, 1942, to Frank Burkett and Lettian Dixon Burkett in Mendenhall, Mississippi, and was the youngest of ten children. He accepted Christ at an early age at Rose Hill Church of Christ and Holiness in Pinola, Mississippi. He always reminded his children and grandchildren to "keep God first" in all things. His life was a testimony to that message — grounded in grace, humility, and service. Throughout the years, he served faithfully in the church as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Youth Leader, and most recently as a Trustee. His dedication to the work of the Lord was evident, not only in the titles he held, but in the way he lived his daily life.
Bobby proudly served his country, first in the United States Army and later in the Mississippi National Guard for 28 years. His time in uniform reflected his courage, discipline, and deep sense of duty. He carried those same values into his everyday life, standing as an example of strength and perseverance for those who knew and loved him.
Bobby was united in Holy Matrimony to Vera Jones on July 27, 1969. Together, they raised three children, and their family grew into a beautiful legacy of eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Each of them carries a piece of his spirit — his kindness, his encouragement, and his faith in God's plan.
Though Bobby was a man of discipline, he never missed the chance to embrace life's simple joys. He loved watching westerns, drawn to their timeless stories of grit and honor, and he rarely missed a good wrestling match on WWE, cheering right along with the excitement. He was also an avid reader, always feeding his mind with stories and knowledge that reflected his curiosity about the world. Yet his greatest joy was found in the company of his grandchildren — spinning silly stories, sharing jokes, and filling the room with laughter. In those moments of playfulness and warmth, he showed his family the truest expression of his love.
Above all, Bobby was a man who poured himself into his family. His words were often gentle but firm, guiding his loved ones to stay true to their faith, to work hard, and to cherish each other. His encouragement, wisdom, and prayers will echo in the lives of those who follow him.
Bobby leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Vera Burkett; his sons, Keith Burkett (Charlotte), Bruce Burkett, and Delvecchio Burkett (LaToya); his grandchildren, Bria Green (Travis), Nkerra Burkett, Damarcus Burkett, Trinity Burkett, Braxton Burkett, Kamari Burkett, Zylah Burkett, and Kingston Burkett; his great-grandchildren, Bella Brown, Braden Burkett, Kinsley Blakely, Brentlee Green, Bailey Green and Zuri Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
