Mendenhall
Funeral Program - DeMarcus C. Childress
Demarcus Cortez Childress was born on January 9, 1990, to Debra Childress and DeWayne Kitchens. At an early age, he accepted Christ and was baptized at Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church, where he was an active member of the youth department, children's choir, and male choir. As a young adult, Demarcus continued his spiritual journey and began attending West Point Baptist Church.
Demarcus, a proud graduate of Mendenhall High School (Class of 2008), furthered his education at Jones Junior College before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Alcorn State University in May 2015. He was employed as a Support Professional at Boswell Regional Center, where he served others with care and compassion.
Demarcus was a man of many gifts and interests. He loved fishing, traveling, and cooking for his family and friends. He also served his community as a barber and youth coach, always bringing laughter and encouragement wherever he went. His warm presence, generous spirit, and infectious smile left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
Demarcus transitioned peacefully into eternal rest on May 12, 2025. He leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved fiancé, Dominique Marshall; their children, Jaden, Daylah, Taylor, and Seth "Cam;" his devoted mother, Debra Childress; and his siblings, La'Darian "BOP" Childress, Dwayne Kitchens, Jr., Brandon Kitchens, Charles Kitchens, Shatara Brown, Marshahn Raine, and Fred Murphy. He is also survived by his paternal grandmother, Sandra J. Kitchens, and maternal step grandmother, Helen Childress. A host of aunts and uncles who played significant roles in his life also mourn his passing: Shirley (Darryle) Burton, Janna (Kent) Miller, Margaret (Otha) Jenkins, Gwendolyn (Josh) Russell, Linda Durr, Pam (Markiah) King, Nichole Dampeer, Tara (Reggie) Radford, Eddie (Theresa) McDonald, Charles McDonald, and Dante (Shonda) Brazley. Demarcus also leaves behind generations of cousins, friends, and loved ones who will continue to carry his memory in their hearts.
Demarcus will be remembered for his kind heart, quick wit, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy of strength, compassion, and dedication will live on in the lives of those he touched.
Demarcus was preceded in death by his father, DeWayne Kitchens; his maternal grandparents, Willie and Dorothy Childress; his paternal grandfather, Will R. Kitchens; his brother, Jonathan Kitchens; his uncles, Willie Charles Childress, Willie Joe Childress, Leonard Childress, Jerry Lee Childress, and John Brazley; and his aunts, Lucy Jean Childress, Dorothy Shorty, and Minnie Shorty.
