Obituary

On November 27, 1927, the late Willie and Rosie Berry had their first daughter, Dorothy . She was the second of 13 children. Five brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

She attended Madison School in the Dry Ridge Community of Simpson County, Mississippi, with the dream of becoming a teacher. On June 26, 1948, she united in Holy Matrimony with the late Robert B. Walker and to this union 12 children were born. Her daughter, Angela L. Walker preceded her in death.

Dorothy was an active member of the Greater Dry Ridge Missionary Baptist Church until her health failed. She served as a deaconess, Sunday school teacher, member of the church mission, the Zion Spring Leaf mission and the Women's Quarterly Institute mission. She also served as the treasurer for the Pastor's Aid Committee for many years. To know Mother Dorothy was to love her, and you knew that you were loved in her own unique way.

She leaves to cherish her memories: six sons, Melvin (Shirley) Walker of New Hempstead, New Jersey, Dale (Arlene) Walker of Long Island, New York, Arthur Walker of Mendenhall, Mississippi, Robert (Jennifer) Walker of Jackson, Mississippi, Ronnie (Lashetta) Walker of Puckett, Mississippi, and Bruce Walker of Mendenhall, Mississippi; five daughters, Geneva (Roosevelt) Gibson of Jackson, Mississippi, Gail Magee of Magee, Mississippi, Linda (Jerry) Hollins of Georgetown, Mississippi, Mattie (Darryl) Coleman of Melbourne, Florida and Michelle Walker of Mendenhall, Mississippi; one adopted daughter, Adorsha (Darrion) Holloway of Mendenhall, Mississippi; three sisters, Mather Lee Newsome of Phoenix, Arizona, Zelma and Thelma Berry of Lithonia, Georgia; two brothers, Frank (Betty) Berry of Brooklyn, New York and Jimmie (Velma) Berry of Villa Rica, Georgia. She also leaves a host of grandchildren, great grands and great-great grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews, and friends.
