Dorothy
Williams
Mar 7, 1936 — Jan 13, 2022
Mendenhall
Sister Dorothy Lee Williams was born March 7, 1936, in New Hebron, Mississippi, to Bud and Mary Lee Dampeer who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death are five brothers, M.D., J.B., Roy Lee, Levester, and James Earl (Sallie Mae) Dampeer; one sister, Arlee Norwood; one son, Jerry Norwood; one daughter, Sarah Nell; and one niece, Dorothy Womack. On the morning of January 13, 2022, Sister Dorothy departed this life for Glory and now is resting in the presence of the Lord.
At an early age, she joined Oak Ridge M.B. Church in New Hebron, Mississippi. Sister Dorothy received her formal education at Oak Ridge High School. She fondly shared with her family that she enjoyed attending church since she was nine years old. Sister Dorothy was united in Holy Matrimony to Blumsie Junior Norwood and to this union six children were born and one preceded her in death. She later moved to Simpson County where she began to make a life for her children and united in marriage to Earl Williams, Jr., who preceded her in death.
She was employed at Magnetek (formerly known as Universal Plant) for over 25 years. She made her church home with the Nazareth M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Albert Myers. Sister Dorothy was very active in church and faithfully served as choir president, kitchen committee president, mission society member, and served as a member of the pastor's aid committee. She was devoted to her church and basically served in every way she could until her health began to fail. Upon her death, she was under the faithful leadership of Pastor Willie B. Hobbs, Jr.
As time moved on, Sister Dorothy became a resident of Harper Village in the city of Mendenhall. It was during this time that she took it upon herself to "feed the residents" and make sure that they were taken care of. It was her way of giving back to others and she will always be greatly appreciated for doing so.
Sister Dorothy, affectionately known as Nanny, Dot Lee, Punkin, Sis and Ms. Reagan, leaves to cherish her memories: five daughters, Mary Rivers, Dorothy Nell Norwood, Carolyn Ball, Sarah Walker (Derrick who preceded her in death), all of Mendenhall, Mississippi and Pam (Tony) Smith of Mt. Olive, Mississippi; two sons, Larry (Frances) Norwood and Charles (Pearlean) Norwood, both of Mendenhall, Mississippi; one sister, Perlean Jackson of Mendenhall, Mississippi; five brothers, Troy Lee (Vickie) Dampeer, Robert Dampeer, and M.L. (Katie) Dampeer, all of Mendenhall, Mississippi, Leon Dampeer of Holbrook, Arizona and Edward Earl Dampeer of Phoenix, Arizona. Also left to cherish her precious memories are 27 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and seven (7) great great grandchildren; and special friends, Mrs. Alice Mae Durr of Texas, Mr. Jerry and Mrs. Mary Sims of Magee, Mississippi, Ms. Vernie R. Burton of Mendenhall, Mississippi, Ms. Marie Rounds of Mendenhall, Mississippi and Mrs. Edith Coleman Ferguson of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
