Obituary

Gary Berry was born to Grady and Rosetta (Owens) Berry on June 16, 1955. A caring, kind and warm-hearted man, he was fondly called "Sonny" and frequently known as "Uncle Sonny" by many. Born and raised in Magee, Mississippi he attended Mendenhall High School and attended St. Peter MB church.

After graduation, he spent time in the construction industry and later as an operator at MagneTek for over 20 years. After the company's closure, he spent a combined 20 years at Johnson Control and the Calvert Company.

During his early life he organized and coached the Blue Jays, a community baseball team where he fulfilled his two passions - sports and people. Under his leadership the Blue Jays won numerous tournaments and trophies. In his spare time he raised cattle, fished, and supported his high school football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Boston Celtics.

To have known "Uncle Sonny, "is to have known a man who would literally give you the shirt off his back, never failing to be there for his family and friends and a "walking sports encyclopedia."

Gary was married to Thelma K. Daniels. He joined his heavenly Father on January 13, 2023, along with his parents; sisters, Tesell Berry Griffith and Millicent Berry and brother George "Buck" Berry.

He leaves his memories to cherish to his brother Grady Edward Berry (Aretha); sister, Mildred Berry, god sister, Bettye Sue Payton; nieces, Roshanna Berry, Christina M. Berry ,Maya (Marquis) Smith; nephews, Marcus Burgess, Kobe Berry and Kurksten Berry; and great nephews, Desmond Berry, Devin Berry, Chanston Berry , Marquis Smith, Jr., Mason Smith, Keirie and Easton Burgess. Also, his memories will be cherished by close friends and cousins: David Berry, David Berry, Jr., Tommie Glen Bouie, Billy Ray Cameron, Donnie "Topper" Patterson, Annette Lofton Jackson and an innumerable amount of loved ones.
