Ms. Gerlene Walker was born on May 24, 1964. She was the thirteenth of fourteen born to the late Joseph "Peanut" and Polly Lou Walker. Both parents, seven (7) brothers: Troy, Joseph, Jr., Milton, Freddie, Melvin, James Earl and Eula C. Walker; two (2) sisters: Lenoia Wallace and Dorothy Walker; and a very special niece that was raised as a sister, Laura Walker-Funchess, preceded her in death.

She joined New Zion M.B. Church at an early age. She was employed by B.C. Rogers Poultry and Processors Plant in Scott County, Mississippi for many years until she was unable to work. She departed her life on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at her home in Magee, Mississippi.

She leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter, Lisa "Suga" Walker; three (3) sisters: Betty Newsome (Bobby), Rosella Walker, Christine Walker-Williams (Willie), all of Pinola, Mississippi; one (1) brother, Grady C. Walker (Jackie) of Chicago, Illinois; one granddaughter, Janaiya Griffin, who reminds us of her in so many ways; also, her pet cat, "BoBo"; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
