Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Helen Ray Lockhart

Helen Ray Lockhart was born on December 31, 1946, in Simpson County, Mississippi, to the late Dorsey and Genora Lockhart. She was one of thirteen children—two girls and eleven boys—including three sets of twins. On February 8, 2025, Helen peacefully transitioned into the heavenly realm at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents and six of her brothers: Walter "Von", Oscar, James, Preston, Clefston and Donald "Ray".

Helen had a spirit of adventure and a love for travel that took her to many places throughout her life. She lived in St. Louis, MO; Joliet, IL; New York City, NY; Fort Jackson, SC; Frankfurt, Germany (where she quickly realized Germany was not for her); and Seaside, CA.

She married the late Charlie Lee Weems, a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army, and embraced life as a devoted military spouse. Together, they moved from Mississippi to South Carolina to Germany before eventually settling in California. During her time in California, Helen worked as a dedicated nurse and caregiver, offering compassion and comfort to those in need.

Helen was an avid reader with a particular passion for Christian and Spiritual books. She cherished her immediate and extended family and found great joy in spending time with them. She loved to laugh and embraced life with warmth and humor, choosing to believe in the goodness of those around her.

She leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory: her children—Carlos of Atlanta, GA; Michael of Biloxi, MS; Rameka of Magee, MS; and Jehovah "Jay" of Magee, MS; ten grandchildren—Austin, Jazzmyne, Devyn, Jordan, Jaylin, Tanaya, Asia, Cashara, DeCarlos, and Jadarius; two great-grandchildren—Tatum and Chase; one sister—Doris of Gulfport, MS; and five brothers— Thomas "Charles" (Sandra) of Magee, MS, Gary (Susan), Jerry (Fay), Roy, and Troy (Sue), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends - including  Gladys Nance of Marina, CA.

Helen's legacy of love, laughter, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
