Henry Womack Funeral Program
Henry Womack was born on February 7, 1950, to Elester and Laura Womack. He joined Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized at an early age. He was a member of the male choir and served as president for several years. He remained a lifelong member and faithfully attended church services until his health declined.
Henry was educated in Simpson County. He attended and graduated from McLaurin Attendance School in 1968. He married Eleanor Hooker Womack and to this union Lashonda Mabry, Jessica Womack, Erma Lewis, and Davis Hooker (Laqansha) were born. He also fathered Henry Funches, Sr., Tracey Washington, and LaTisha (James) King.
Henry was the proud grandfather of Anfernee Funches, Sr., Kevanna Funches, Jamea Funches, Henry Funches, Jr., Jakareus Mabry, Matthew Mabry, Madison Mabry, Caleb Stuckey, Markus Floyd, Jr., Zoeye Washington, Joychell Rogers, Marquis King, Lance Robinson, Logan Robinson, Ava Lewis, Azaria Hooker, Zoe Hooker, Zendaya Hooker; and seven (7) great grandchildren. He also had three (3) very special nieces: Bobbie Durr, Peyton White, and Linda Green; along with one brother, Bernard Womack; one sister, Valerie Dean; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Womack; his parents, Elester and Laura; his brothers, Walter Womack, Leeobie Womack, Tommy Stewart, Ray Womack, and his special brother Obie Hooker; his sisters, Ernie Stewart, Ella Mae Hayes, Mary Lou Newsome, and Mayleen Craft Myers.
Henry was a very loving and kind man who would help you in your time of need. He was soft spoken but very direct. He had the amazing ability to connect with all he came in contact with. There was never a dull moment with him around. His charismatic personality drew people to him. He opened his home and assisted in raising many children in the surrounding community.
Henry served as a volunteer fire fighter at Station 7 where he served for many years. Upon his retirement, he was one of the first Black men to start his Lawn Care Business. He served his customers with joy and pride for over 50 years.
Henry loved his friends and family, he was an avid fisherman, supported his grandkids, and loved football. He was like…GO MAGEE! Until his grandchildren started playing for Mendenhall, then he was like…GO MENDENHALL!! His favorite team was the New Orleans Saints, he liked traveling and visiting family, and going out to eat chitterlings and seafood.
Henry and his special brother, Obie Hooker, were honorary employees at Vowell's Grocery Store in Mendenhall. They were faithful workers and never missed a day. They ate twice a day then sat outside to watch the people and enjoy talking to the guys.
Henry's life was like a box of chocolates. You never knew what you were going to get with him. But for us, we got lots of love, guidance, wisdom, understanding and honesty.
Henry would always brighten up your day. He loved his family and friends with his wholeheart. He enjoyed life to the fullest, now he can take his rest. God took a great father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend… now he can take his rest!
