Obituary

Jacquelyn Lynn Showers, known to all as Jackie, was born January 24, 1966, to Lena Showers. She was reared by the late Mary and Wallace Showers. At an early age,  Jackie joined  James Chapel M.B. Church.  As  Jackie grew, she developed an interest in singing and joined the church choir for many years.  Jackie accepted Christ at an early age and continued to serve as a Christian throughout her life.

She attended West Union and Mendenhall High Schools.  Jackie was a social butterfly and enjoyed laughing with others.  Jackie loved being around family, friends, and work.  Jackie experienced love through marriage to Lee Durr. Though their relationship turned out to be less permanent that either of them expected, both went on to become great friends.  Jackie enjoyed life and did not let people's opinions dictate her decisions. She spoke her truth.

She was passionate about her career as an Environmental Specialist at Simpson General Hospital where she remained employed since 1989 up until her passing.  Although  Jackie did not bear children, she was a mother figure to her nieces (cousins) - Karlee Forbes,  Jhanna Showers,  Jhessika Crosby and  Jherrika  Atterberry.  Jackie brought love and laughter as good medicine in cheering up one's day. Her laughter, singing and million-dollar smile will forever be missed.

Jackie leaves to mourn: her mother, Lena Showers (New York, New York); cousins, reared as sisters, Ruchelle Showers (Pinola, Mississippi) and Stephanie Showers (Palm Bay, Florida); sister, Gwendolyn (Thomas) Daniels (Pittsburg, Pennsylvania); special first cousins, Christy Adams (Austin, Texas) and Yolanda Adams (Houston, Texas); aunts, Hazel Powe (Dallas, Texas) and  Joyce (Ledford) Bradshaw (Brooklyn, New York); uncle, Strokehough (LaTonya) Adams,  Jr. (Magee, Mississippi); special friend, Neil Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and co-workers.
