John Kenneth
Perkins
Aug 29, 1947 — Jan 8, 2018
Braxton
Mr. John Kenneth Perkins
On August 29, 1947, John Kenneth Perkins was born to Wilma Jean Perkins and John Henry Funchess in Mendenhall, Mississippi. John was the oldest child born to Wilma. He was reared with love and discipline by his maternal grandparents, Eddie (Dutch) and Idella Perkins. At an early age, John confessed Christ at St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Alfred Griffin. His membership remained there until God called him into a peaceful rest on January 8, 2018.
He received his formal education through the Simpson County School System and graduated from Harper Vocational High School in 1965. John loved reading, learning, and music. He formed a unique bond with his classmates that created lifelong relationships. John truly, truly loved the class of '65! He furthered his education at Piney Wood Country Life School and Prentiss Institute. John began his career at Universal Manufacturing Corporation in 1968. After retirement, he continued to complete "odd" jobs in painting and carpentry.
John was united in Holy Matrimony to Rosie Lean McCadney on June 17, 1972. John and Rosie had three smart, amazing, and beautiful daughters: Daphne Denise, Tracy, and the "baby," Johnifer. On July 29, 2013, John was blessed with his greatest gift, the birth of his one and only granddaughter, Sydney Rose! John loved and adored "the girls!"
Brother John, as he was fondly known, was a Deacon at St. John from the early 1970's. He also served as an usher and custodian. John remained faithful until his transition. Known for his meek and mild nature, John loved to converse with any and everybody. He never met a stranger and enjoyed helping anyone in need. We believe that he was one of the hardest working men we knew!
John was preceded in death by his father; maternal grandparents; brother, Hershel; and special cousins: Darcel Perkins and LG Holmes.
He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife, Rosie, affectionately known as, "Sook;" three daughters, Daphne, Tracy, and Johnifer; a granddaughter, Sydney Rose; mother, Wilma; special uncle and aunt, Billy and Doris Perkins; sisters, Beverly, Marsha, Sandra, Allison, Carla, and Sonja; brothers, Chauncey and LaRue; special cousins, Clint and Felecia; and a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins, surrogate daughters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
