Deacon Laurence G. "Bubba" Newsome was born December 5, 1961, in Jackson, Mississippi; the fifth of six (6) children born to the late Deacon N.B. "Brown" Newsome and Ira Mae "Doll" Newsome.

He attended school at Puckett Attendance Center in Puckett, Mississippi (Rankin County). Bubba played football for Puckett School where he acquired an undeniable love for the sport.

In his youthful days, he confessed Christ and joined Rose Hill M.B. Church. As he matured into manhood, he became an usher, a deacon, and Assistant Sunday School Superintendent where he served unto the Lord called him home.

On May 8, 1982, he united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Linda "Ce" Davis, the daughter of the late Margaret Davis of Gulfport, Mississippi. They have two children: daughter, Shanice Mays and son, Rashad Mays.

Approximately at 3:00 a.m. on Monday, April 6, 2020, God's Angels visited him at home to claim one of God's own.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and faithful wife, Mary "Ce" Newsome; daughter, Shanice Mays of Jackson, Mississippi; son, Rashad Mays of Mendenhall, Mississippi; two brothers, the late E.G. Newsome (Nell) of Mendenhall, Mississippi and Bernard Griffin of Los Angeles, California; five sisters, Glean Allen (OK) of Columbia, Mississippi, Shirley Stinett (Milton) of Vallejo, California, Glendora Harden (Charles) of Jackson, Mississippi, Peggy Brown (Shuan) and Mae Fairley (Rickey) both of Mendenhall, Mississippi.

God blessed Bubba's family to share many happy and special years with him. Praise God! He fought a good fight and held on to his faith. Praise God! He loved his family, church family, and friends. Bubba's favorite song was "My Hallelujah Belongs to You!"
