Lee Vernice Lofton of Chicago, Illinois
June 8, 1930 - December 2, 2022
Mrs. Lee Vernice Lofton, also affectionately known as "Bunch", "Madea" or "Granny Gran", was born June 8, 1930, in Simpson
County, Mississippi. She was born to L. E. and Julia Lee Skiffer. Mrs. Lee Vernice Lofton passed away while visiting her beloved
sister Earnestine Blanford in D'Lo, Mississippi on December 2, 2022.
Lee Vernice married Woodrow Lofton of Magee, Mississippi and resided in Chicago, Illinois for the remainder of her life. She worked
at Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago until she retired.
Lee Vernice symbolized her dedication as one of Jehovah's Witnesses by water baptism on May 12, 1956. Two years later, she attended
the Divine Victory International Convention of Jehovah's Witnesses with a combined attendance of over 250,000 at New York's
Yankee Stadium and Polo Grounds. She was an active Jehovah's Witness the rest of her life. She loved attending the meetings at the
Kingdom Hall, assemblies and conventions. Sister Lofton, as she was called by her spiritual family, accepted the Bible's hope of an
earthly resurrection on a paradise earth. That was her hope. She loved sharing Bible truths with any and every one that wanted to
listen, especially her five children, all of whom choose to become Jehovah's Witnesses.
She will be remembered for her generous acts of kindness. When you needed ANYTHING, all you had to do was call Bunch, Madea,
or Granny Gran. If she could do it, she would do it. Just not at 6:30 p.m. When she was watching her favorite television show, Wheel
of Fortune!
Madea always seemed to be present for reunions, graduations, funerals and weddings. She loved the 5-hour drive to Cleveland, Ohio
to visit her sisters and their families.
Since her late husband previously worked for the railroad, she had a lifetime rail pass. She used it many times to return home to
Mississippi. She would always say "Archie or Kendall will be there at the train station to get me". When traveling home to D'Lo
by car, her favorite rest stop was Boomland.
Cruising with her family was her passion and favorite fun thing to do. She achieved Platinum status with one cruise line. Each time
the ship docked at an island, she would put on her sneakers and join the family's tour group, never complaining about being tired.
On one voyage, she was unexpectedly called onstage and the captain presented her a plaque for being the oldest person on the ship!
At the ripe old age of 92 she felt she had one last cruise left in her. She paid for her cabin, but, later began to weaken. She had 2
wishes. First was "Y'all go on that cruise! Second, "Take me to my sister Ernestine". She therefore took her first and last breaths
down home in Mississippi.
Lee Vernice leaves to cherish her memory daughter, Lautritia Moorehand of Crestview, Florida; two sons: Ricky Lofton (Felecia) of
Chicago, Illinois; Stanley Lofton (Debbie) of Austin, Texas; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings: Floree Webster
(Johnny) of Cleveland, Ohio, Earnestine Blanford and Archie Skiffer (Janice), both of D'Lo, Mississippi; and Tina Fuller of Maple
Heights, Ohio; one aunt: Betty Jean Arrington of Olathe Kansas, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
