Leta T. Boykin Funeral Program
On Saturday morning, December 18, 1971, at 0235 the world was blessed with a phenomenon whose physical presence impacted lives for 52 years, 2 months and 12 days. Whose "True living Memorii" shall resound throughout the ages.
LETA TAMU (child of Love) BOYKIN was the first born of Eloise McLeod Jackson. Her point of entry was the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), Jackson, Mississippi. Her point of exit was Edisto Island, South Carolina, with many pit stops along her journey. Foundational undergirding in Simpson County, Mississippi, Charleston, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. Received Associate Degree from Co-Lin Community College, Wesson, Mississippi; the Bachelor's of Science and Master of Science from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Served in US Army. Employed wherever the adventure was (Mississippi, Offshore Louisiana and Texas, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi). She loved to travel and did so with purpose. Backpacked the continental U.S. Visited Hawaii, Mexico, England, Ireland, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Thailand, Dubai, Africa, parts of Canada and wherever she was employed. Her love for adventure led Leta to gift several high school graduates with a Passport (to expand their horizons).
My "Child of Love" cultivated many relationships and is fondly remembered as that "One-of-a-kind" "Once-in-a-lifetime" whirlwind.
Leta leaves to manifest her legacy of love and adventure: her mother, Eloise McLeod Jackson; bonus father, George Jackson; sister, Meghan McLeod; spouse, Timothy Claiborne of Crystal Springs, Mississippi; biological father, Jerry Boykin (Denise) of Virginia; two maternal aunts, Doris McLeod of Pinola, Mississippi, and Brenda McLeod Brown of Crystal Springs, Mississippi; two nieces, Ryken Brown of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and Keeleigh Magee of Mendenhall, Mississippi; three nephews, Isaiah Brown of Kuwait, Kameron Magee and Kanaan Magee of Mendenhall, Mississippi; one great niece, Brooklyn Brown; a special cousin, Inet Kemp; a special aunt and her travelling buddy, Mary Alice Smith; her pen pal for 40 years, Jen of Dubai; her besties, Trey Hatch from Abu Dhabi, Linda Purvis of Chesapeake, Virginia, John and Karen Case of Canada, and Dillard from Tennessee; four paternal aunts: Joanne, Lois, Alice and Retha of Virginia; one paternal uncle, Edward Boykin of Washington, D.C.; along with other family, friends and acquaintances too many to number.
Leta was preceded in crossing that "Chilly Jordan" by a great cloud of witnesses which include her grandparents, R.B. and Beulah McLeod, Edward and Mrs. Boykin; her uncle, Robert Ray McLeod; her #1 "joined-at-the-hip" cousin, Robert (Bozo) McLeod, Jr. (He departed 27 years to the day. We envision him escorting her across to join the others).
