Lillie Mae Moore
Lillie Mae Moore, the daughter of Mary Lee Rhodes and Nathaniel Rhodes, was born on February 21, 1951.
Lillie was educated in the Simpson County Schools. She was a proud 1969 graduate of Harper High School where she played basketball. Her career began at Universal Magnetek in Mendenhall, Mississippi. She also worked at Manhattan Nursing Home, Boswell Regional Center, Strong River Villa Assisted Living and Piney Woods School. She served as a mother for many of the students at Piney Woods until she died. She often brought them to church and prepared many meals for them.
Lillie loved people and people loved her; primarily, because she said what she meant and meant what she said. Lillie joined St. Mary M.B. Church and was baptized at an early age and remained a life-long member. She served faithfully until her death. She served as a choir member, a BTU Youth Advisor, member of the Parent Booster Club, the Women's Mission, and the Pastoral Search Committee. She stood proudly and professed that she was proud to be a part of the selection process for our Pastor, Reverend Anthony B. Watts whom she loved dearly. The St. Mary Church Family will truly miss our own Sis. Lillie Moore, but we will love her forever.
God whispered to Lillie, "Come with Me," on Sunday, February 17, 2019, at her home in D'Lo, Mississippi. Preceding Lillie in death were her parents, Nathaniel and Mary Lee Rhodes; husband, Melvin Moore; daughter, Tonya Smith Taylor; siblings, James, Louise, Charles, L.M., Thomas, Eddie, Willie (her twin brother), Robert and Arthur.
Lillie Mae leaves to cherish her memory: son, Curtis (Scooter) Smith of D'Lo, Mississippi; grandchildren, Deanna Taylor of D'Lo, Mississippi and Ebony Taylor (Fiancé-Justin Sullivan) of Magee, Mississippi; four great grands, Laila, MaKayla, McKenzie and AJ; brother, Tommy Rhodes, D'Lo, Mississippi; two sisters, Shirley Kern and Annette Williams of Omaha, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
