Lois' Obituary "To Life"
"...And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." Matthew 22:37
Lois (Doris) Ann "Black" Holmes Mangum was born on December 11, 1957 to the late Jack and Jessie Holmes. Lois Ann was born in New Orleans, LA, but ran and fought on the streets of Kenner, LA (31st Street). As a young woman, she moved to D'Lo, MS, met her life long love, "Jimmy" Mangum, and they later married August 14, 1998. They raised three girls (Gwana, Jackie, and Asreial). Later, she reconnected and learned to love on her baby girl, Shanquel (Holmes) Morgan.
Lois loves her family in the realest and most chaotic way! She cherishes nine grandchildren, two-great-grandchildren, and nine siblings (Faye, Lillian, Betty, Jacqueline, Glennie (Kenneth), Martha (Earnest), John (Cherita), Walter (Shirley), and Patrick. She also gained, by marriage, seven sister-in-laws, three brother-in-laws, and three son-in-laws (Henry, Jeremy and Elvid).
Lois' academic education was brief, but her self-taught/street knowledge is on-going! She worked as a nurse's aide (Hillcrest Nursing Home, Manhattan Nursing Home, Crossgates Nursing Home), and as a Poultry Worker (Sanderson Farm).
And in spirit, she will continue to work as a daycare worker (The Village) and domestic, house-wife (James Mangum).
She loved God, her family, her community, and Bethlehem's church family. She also loved life to the fullest, stands alones whether right or wrong, and tells it to "you" and no one else, because that's how authentic she is.
