Lonnie Mclemore,
Jr
May 7, 1970 — Aug 22, 2019
Mendenhall
Lonnie Daniel McLemore, Jr., was born on May 7, 1970, to Harriet Yvonne Lee and Lonnie D. McLemore, Sr. He was the first of two handsome sons that they were blessed with.
Lonnie attended elementary school at Piney Woods County Life School. After a few years, Lonnie and Eric were enrolled in Mendenhall Elementary where he excelled in football and basketball. High school was no different for Lonnie. He received numerous awards in football for his athletic abilities and thereby received a scholarship to Colin Community College.
Lonnie journeyed to Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), and received his B.S. in the field of History. He had a successful football career there. One of the highlights came, when he and his brother participated in the NFL Scouting Combine in 1996.
Lonnie didn't stop. His dedication in the field of education led him to earn a Master of Science degree in Education Administration and Supervision on August 1, 1998, from Jackson State University, another HBCU. As time afforded, Lonnie was working on his Specialist degree at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Lonnie's last job was as a teacher, for well over a decade, at Mississippi State Hospital in Pearl, Mississippi. He worked there until his passing.
Wherever Lonnie went in life, there was joy in his smile. He loved to talk and joke with friends, family or anyone he met. There was a genuine love in his heart for people. He enjoyed teaching a Sunday School Class at Mendenhall Bible Church and was involved daily with the Prayer Line Warriors. He was there in love and truth for anyone who desired spiritual advice. He had a laugh, oh boy that laugh, and it could be heard.
If anyone knew Lonnie, they knew that he had passion for things he loved; from his favorite sports teams the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Dallas Cowboys to his friends and family whom he loved dearly.
Lonnie leaves to cherish his memory: his brother, Eric Harrison McLemore of Magee, Mississippi; nephews, Ty Easterling and Kory McLemore of Mississippi; aunts, Bridgette Harry of Mississippi and Audrey Carroll of California; uncle, Coy Henderson of Mississippi; cousins, Bettina (Steson) Boone of Louisiana and Stephanie Harry of Mississippi; and a host of other family, friends of the prayer line, and friends at the Mississippi State Hospital.
