Marvin G. Key was born September 30, 1966, in Jackson, Mississippi, to John Key and Doretha L. Jenkins Key. He transitioned to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 7, 2022, in the afternoon.

He attended Saratoga Springs High School (New York) where he played football and played the drums in the band. He then began his working career at Popeyes in Troy, New York. He later met his significant other at the time and one child was born, Casey Key (1984). Marvin loved to bet on horses at OTB and the race track in Saratoga, shoot pool, and watch wrestling with his mom.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Doretha L. Jenkins Key; and one brother, Calvin Curtis "Boot" Key.

Marvin Gaye Key leaves to cherish is loving memory: his daughter, Casey Key, Saratoga, New York; his three grandchildren, Alexis Retell, Faith Retell, and Mario Retell, all of Saratoga, New York; his seven siblings—sisters, Desiree Key Salmond, Franshell (Jerry) Fort, Chancine Cager, and Shirley Brame, all of Jackson, Mississippi; brothers, Joe Key, Jackson, Mississippi, Kelvin (Zabrina) Fuller, and Terry Fuller, both of Clinton, Mississippi; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
