Obituary

Mitchell Charles Avery was born June 21, 1966, in DeKalb, Mississippi, to Melvin Avery and Brilla Ola Dampeer Avery. Mitchell was the third child born to this union.

Mitchell grew up in D'Lo, Mississippi and attended Mendenhall High School where he played and excelled in football. He received a scholarship to play football at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama but deferred his academic and athletic goals to aid and assist his mother after the untimely passing of his older brother.

Mitchell began his working career at Boswell Regional Center, Magee, Mississippi and Millcreek Rehabilitation Center, Magee, Mississippi. He was beloved by both his clients and colleagues. His willingness to help was only paralleled and exceeded by his compassion for others. He received numerous awards and recognitions throughout his career at both centers.

Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Brilla Ola Avery; brother, Michael Anthony Dampeer; and sister, LaShaun Rene' Avery. He leaves to cherish his memories: two brothers, Gary D. Avery, Mendenhall, Mississippi and Marcus K. Avery, D'Lo, Mississippi; sister, Regina A. Smith, Kenner, Louisiana; uncles, aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
