Rommie Lee Russell

Rommie Lee Russell was born on June 11, 1935 in Raleigh, Mississippi, to the late Bishop and Rosie Russell and departed on April 25, 2019 in Jackson, Mississippi. He was the second born of three children: the late Roscoe Russell (Denver, Colorado), and Lena Mae Dixon (Mendenhall, Mississippi).

Rommie graduated from Harper High School in Mendenhall, Mississippi, and later, from Alcorn A&M College (Alcorn State University) in Lorman, Mississippi, with a degree in business. He joined in Holy Matrimony with Loree Rivers in 1965, who preceded him in death. Together, they raised four children and blessed the lives of many others. They always opened their home allowing for plenty of laughter and love.

Most people encountered Mr. Russell during his 33-year tenure as a business and typing teacher at Mendenhall High School. He was a part of the group of teachers that helped to integrate the Simpson County School System. If you talked to him long enough, his love of fishing would come up. He always heavily emphasized the importance of education. He served as a faithful trustee and Sunday School teacher of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church until his passing.

Rommie Russell leaves behind his beloved four children: Regina Lafaye (Phillip) Watkins (Hampton, Virginia), Reginald LaVon "Rusty" Russell (D'Lo, Mississippi), Calvin Scott (Sheron) Russell (Terry, Mississippi), and Rolanda LaKeysha (Jonathan) Russell (D'Lo, Mississippi); his cherished grandchildren, Dr. Marquita Renee Watkins (Charleston, South Carolina), Pheron Calisha Russell (Byram, Mississippi), Faith Dominique Watkins (Hattiesburg, Mississippi), and David Emery Lee Watkins (Macon, Georgia); along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
