Ross Mc
Donald
May 22, 1943 — Oct 31, 2021
Mendenhall
Ross McDonald, Jr., lovingly known as Mr. Ross, passed away due to his battle with dementia complications. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Mr. Ross managed his illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. During his final days he was surrounded by his family, who he adored more than anything else in this world.
Mr. Ross made lifelong friends throughout his journey. He never met a stranger and always had a kind word to share. He encouraged all and stressed the importance of doing great work, and being one with God. Mr. Ross loved his family unconditionally and always had a smile to greet his friends. He was a committed servant of the Lord and took great pride in serving as a deacon and as a dedicated Sunday school teacher. He was a loyal and resolute member of the G. Grove Baptist Church. You could always count on him to open the Church, lead devotion, pray, and teach Sunday school on any given day. He touched so many lives through his selfless acts of kindness.
Mr. Ross worked for over 30 years with Magnetek (The Plant) never missing a single day of work. He retired in 2013 after a very successful and rewarding job with the City of Mendenhall, where he was awarded employee of the year. He was an active member of the Mendenhall Lodge #582-F.&A.M P.H.A.
Mr. Ross was born in Mendenhall, Mississippi, to Ross McDonald, Sr. and Ella B. McDonald. He grew up in Mendenhall with six siblings. As a teen, he loved spending his time with his childhood friends. As an adult, his favorite pastime was fishing and hunting. Mr. Ross' most memorable hunting experience was when Congressman Bennie Thompson and Mr. Homer Wilkes invited him and his friends to the Mississippi Delta on a hunting excursion. When Mr. Ross was not fishing or hunting, you would oftentimes find him home watching country and western shows, and on Sunday after church, cheering passionately for his favorite football team, the New Orleans Saints.
Mr. Ross married Verma Lee Walker in 1979 and they celebrated their 43 rd anniversary on June 21, 2021. They were an inseparable couple and believed in the sanctity of marriage. When you saw them, you knew their love for each other was unwavering. Being a kind and dependable father was of utmost importance to Mr. Ross and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family.
Mr. Ross McDonald, Jr., was the best husband, father, grandfather, and great-grand father that anyone could ever want. He leaves to cherish his memory his dedicated and devoted wife, six children, seventeen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
