Roy L. Rogers Funeral Program

Roy Lee Rogers was one of five sons born to Alex James Rodgers, Sr, and Hattie Bell Glasper Rodgers. Roy was born on August 3, 1945, in Crystal Springs, Mississippi.  Early in his childhood, the family relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana. As a teenager, Roy would then make his way back to Mt. Olive, MS where he was raised by a loving aunt, Mary Guest. Roy attended Mt. Olive Attendance Center and was a member of the football team.  In his late teens, Roy entered the workforce and primarily worked in construction and as a truck driver. Some of the companies he worked for included Blain Construction in Mt. Olive, MS, Magnetek (formerly Universal) in Magee, MS and Tyson Foods (formerly McCarty Farms) in Magee, MS.  His longest tenure was at Tyson Foods where he was employed as a truck driver.  For over twenty years, he delivered feed to many poultry farms in Simpson and surrounding counties. He traveled many miles on many country roads and could tell you how to get most anywhere without getting on a major highway. He could also tell which gas stations, on those back roads, had the best food. Occasionally, he would make the trip to New Orleans to visit family.

In 1980, Roy married Annie Ruth Landing Weathersby and to this union one son was born. Roy was a member of the Greater Dry Ridge Missionary Baptist Church and he sang in the male choir. If asked, he would likely have said that he did not have a hobby but he never met a car or truck that he didn't like. Some people flip houses but Roy flipped cars. Most people knew that he was the goto person if you were in the market for a used car. He either knew where to find one or would set out to find one that might fit your needs.

Roy was also an excellent spades player but would not make you feel bad, as his partner, if you did not know what you were doing.  Roy was preceded in death by both his parents and all of his brothers (Meddie Lee Rodgers, Limmie Lee Rodgers, Sr., Alex James Rodgers, Jr., and Troy Lee Rodgers, Sr.) He is survived by his wife, Annie Ruth Landing Rogers; his children, Debbie Peone (Brad), Roy Frederick Rogers, Jeffrey Rogers, Darron Dampier, Kendrick Dampeer; stepchildren, Pamela Graham (George), Daryl Weathersby (Bertra) and a special nephew, Limmie Rodgers, Jr. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews and in-laws.
