Shirley Jean Ards was born March 14, 1949 to the late Vernell Badgett and Arcola Smith. She transitioned from this earthly life to her heavenly home on December 16, 2017.

She was a 1967 graduate of New Hymn High School and a member of Pine Ridge M.B. Church. She worked at Simpson General Hospital until she retired as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

On March 23, 1968, Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Ray Ards. To this union, they were blessed with four children: Tarrell Teray Ards, Cosherry Ards, Darrell Ards and Latoria Ards. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her beloved husband, Ray Ards; her children: Tarrell Teray Ards (Janice Banks), Darrell Ards (Reva Barnes), and Latoria Ards Harris (Jerry Harris); her grandchildren: Jarrell Ards, Jartravion Ards, R'Tavion Ards, Nakealius Ards, Samari Ards, Tavion Jones, Jerrious Harris, and Jayla Harris; her great grandchild: Kayden Jarreu Ards; her brother: Author Smith (Dora Smith); her sisters: Dorisene Johnson (J.W. Johnson), Carol Capels (Clint Capels), and Laura Berry (Johnny Berry); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Vernell Badgett; her mother, Arcola Badgett; and her daughter, Cosherry Ards.
