Verlean H. Smith was born December 1, 1938, to the late Earnest and Mary Lou Hobbs in Simpson County, Mississippi. She departed this life on January 6, 2026, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi.

Verlean was married to the late Wiley Smith. They had nine children.

Verlean joined the St. Peter M.B. Church where she accepted Christ. She was a member of the senior choir and mission where she served as the treasurer.

Verlean was a loving mother to her children. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her sons. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She loved watching Family Feud and doing crossword puzzles.

Verlean leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters, Glenda Glass, Perlean (Charles) Norwood, and Mary (Burkecele) Barron, all of Magee, Mississippi; two sons, Virgil Smith, Magee, Mississippi, and Andrew Smith, D'Lo, Mississippi; 13 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Alice Lofton, Mendenhall, Mississippi, and Roxie (Larry) Weathersby, Prentiss, Mississippi; sisters-in-law, Betty Hobbs, Magee, Mississippi, and Sylvia Hobbs, Mendenhall, Mississippi; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and relatives.
