Wade Oliver
Magee
Jan 12, 1941 — Oct 20, 2020
Collins
Wade Oliver Magee entered this life on January 17, 1941, in Collins, Mississippi. Wade was the seventh of ten children born to Robert and Willie Mae (nee Jackson) Magee. Wade was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, three sisters, and one grandson, his namesake.
Wade was educated in the Jasper and Covington County's school system. Wade loved his family and went into the workforce as a teenager to help his parents care for his younger siblings. Wade's first job was at Collinwood Poultry now known as Sanderson Farms.
Wade confessed hope and belief in God at an early age. While living in Chicago, Wade was a member of Freedom Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Craig M. Smith. In 2000, Wade became a member of the Men of Standard and the Usher Ministry, where he remained until relocating to Collins in 2012. Upon settling back into life in Collins, Wade joined the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Michael O. Evans, and he remained there until his health prevented him from attending church.
Wade was united in Holy Matrimony to Hazel Aultman on July 6, 1963. To this union, two children were born: Vivian Dolores and Letita Evette; and a daughter, Charlotte Tina.
In 1967, following the birth of Tita, Wade and his family moved to Chicago, Illinois to join other family who had already been there. While in Chicago, Wade initially worked in construction and was a jack of many trades. However, Wade honed his knack for bartending and a made a fulltime career as a bartender and was employed on the west side of Chicago for many years.
As mentioned earlier, Wade was a family man and loved family events. Wade welcomed any chance to get together with his family whether that was hosting at his house or taking a road trip to Mississippi. Wade was the master of the barbecue grill, best fish fryer and a skilled spades player. Wade was a southern man to his core and said words like "yonder" frequently and he also did not believe a meal was complete without a pot of beans (boy could he make a pot of beans). Wade also had a profound love of music and could be found listening to music most days. Wade's wife and siblings spoke frequently about his sultry voice and how skilled a singer he was. Wade especially loved gospel quartets and the oldies. Some of his favorite artist/groups were The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Canton Spirituals, Jackson Southernaires, Willie Banks, Sam Cooke, Johnny Taylor, The Stylistics, The Temptations and so many others.
Wade transitioned from this life to rest on October 20,2020, at 4:52 p.m. Wade was surrounded by his wife and one daughter. That morning, Wade let his family know that he talked with God and that he was leaving this world; he peacefully departed that evening.
Wade leaves to cherish his blessed life; devoted wife of 57 years, Hazel; three daughters, Vivian (Albert) Finch, Letita Magee and Charlotte Harris; grandchildren, Jawaun, Jamaal, Jamar, Jovantae, Javaris, Gregory, Ronald, Steven, Shavonna, Stephon, Dequail, Joquez, Marshay, Quartez and Shaleia; 17 great-grandkids; one brother, Ernest Ray (Yvonne) Magee and one sister, Jessie Marie Condrey; brother-in-law, Sherwin Morris and sister-in-law, Doris Magee; best friend, Ricky (Jenell) Gates. Wade had a profound love for his nieces, nephews and cousins, who all will carry his legacy through life.
