Walter James
Gray
Oct 12, 1951 — Nov 10, 2022
Brandon
"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted." Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 (KJV)
Walter James Gray was born on October 12, 1951, to the union of Linell and Ruby Gray of D'Lo, Mississippi. He was the youngest of eight children. He departed this life on November 10, 2022, at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery Veterans (VA) Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi.
Walter confessed a belief in Jesus Christ at an early age and attended Sunday School and church as a child. Walter graduated from Harper Vocational High School with the class of 1969. He entered the workforce shortly after graduation. He worked at the Universal Manufacturing Plant until he joined the United States Army and the Army Reserves. After leaving the military, he moved back home to D'Lo, Mississippi. Walter had a zest for life that no one could measure, and he loved his family and friends.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Linell and Ruby Gray; one brother, Carnell; and three sisters, Syrlenia, Zyrlenia, and Virgie.
Walter leaves to cherish his memory: a loving, special friend, Catherine Fletcher of Brandon, Mississippi; sons, Walter Norwood of Magee, Mississippi and Cedric Norwood of Mendenhall, Mississippi; daughters, Yulanda Norwood-King of Montgomery, Alabama and Henriette Love of Brandon, Mississippi; brother, Plummer (Jean) Jones of D'Lo, Mississippi; sisters, Dorothy Baylis of Tacoma, Washington and Lenora James of Mendenhall, Mississippi; and devoted family members, Stanley Jones, John Ross, Raymond Ross, Eric Gray, and Sylvia Gray. He also had a loving host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
