William Quitman
Myers
Dec 11, 1931 — Nov 1, 2019
Mendenhall
William Quitman Myers, 87, died on Friday, November 1, 2019, following a brief illness. He was born December 11, 1931 in Mendenhall, Mississippi. He is the son of Plummer Myers and Mattie Payne Myers; both parents preceded him in death. Mr. Myers is survived by three siblings; one brother, Samuel Myers; and two sisters, Mary McNair and Plummer Mae Floyd.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ardie Lee (Grubbs) Myers and five children, his son, James Myers and his wife, Cottie Mae Myers; his four daughters, Ellen Walker and her husband, Milton Walker, Gail Myers, Sylvia Myers, and Sidney Ortiz and her husband, Byron Rettig. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
William is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals. After serving in the military, he retired as a veteran. His work ethic and his natural ability to learn can be directly attributed to his military background. Through his discipline and patriotism, he learned to be the best from the Army, which never left him, as family and close friends will attest. Mr. Myers worked at Magnetek Universal Plant for 31 years. After retirement from the Universal Plant, as he called it, he became self-employed for 40 years.
Mr. Myers had a passion for animals, especially dogs. For years, he would walk to his brother's home and sit on the porch and feed the dogs as they passed time away talking.
