Obituary

Sergeant Willie Davis Magee , the son of Hattie Mae Magee and Willie Payne (United States Navy Korean War Veteran), was born on June 30, 1960, in Magee, Mississippi. He was called to eternal rest on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi.

Willie Davis was brilliant in math and scored high on the military test. He thought it funny that the military personnel were surprised about his high score on the exam.  He laughed about it with his brother Jimmy and told him, "I'm going to get a beer." Willie Davis and his brothers, Eli Magee (Retired Vietnam Veteran and Purple Heart recipient) and Jimmy Edward Magee (Retired Persian Gulf and Desert Storm Veteran and National Defense Service Medal recipient) were proud to serve in the U.S. Military. Willie served in the Gulf War. During Willie's stint in the military, he completed the Tactical Circuit Controller course and attended Alta Mesa Community College in California. His military commendations included:  ASR, National Defense Service Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Achievement Medal and the Marksmanship Badge. After 20 years of honorable service, he retired at the rank of E5.

Willie Davis was straightforward and didn't mind telling you how he felt. He willingly apologized when he felt the need to do so. He enjoyed watching military and western movies, loved drinking his beer and smoking cigarettes up to his final days on this earth. He wanted to be remembered as a natural person and wanted his funeral to be simple. He did not mind telling you he loved his beer and cigarettes but he did stop for a while. During his final days, he told his brother Jimmy that he did not want anyone preaching about saving his soul. He was not caught up in religion but had a close relationship with the Lord in his heart.

Willie Davis was preceded in death by his parents, Hattie Mae Magee and Willie Payne; his grandparents, Kennis Owens and Martha Owens; and his sister, Martha Mae Keys.

Willie Davis is survived by his siblings, Eli Magee, Eva Mae Barber, Willie Ester Magee, James Earl Magee, and Jimmy Edward Magee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
